Little Falls, N.J. -- The baseball team (24-13) closed out its regular season with a 7-2 loss to Montclair State (24-18) Sunday, 7-2. Junior shortstop Josh Smith (Pulaski/Richland) led the Bombers with two RBIs.
The Bombers scored their runs in the third inning. Smith, who went 1-for-3, singled to centerfield to score freshman third baseman Dylan Perez (ConVal Regional [Conn.]/Peterborough, N.H.) and senior leftfielder Jeremy Peters (Thomas R. Proctor/Utica). Perez had reached base with a one-out single and Peters followed by beating out a bunt to third base. Both players went 1-for-3 on the day.
Three Bombers made appearances on the mound. Junior Shane Wolf (Lansing/Freeville) pitched three innings and struck out two. Sophomore Adam Brown (Greece Athena/Rochester) pitched four and struck out three and senior Matt Lavoie (Moses Brown/Providence, R.I.) pitched one and struck out one.
Ithaca looks to obtain a bid for the NCAA Regional in Auburn, N.Y.
